Mike’s Positions on the Issues

As a veteran of the military, Mike knows the importance of keeping law and order. As the highest law enforcement authority in the County, Mike will enforce the laws while protecting individual constitutional rights and liberties.  Those who commit crimes must be held accountable and victim’s rights prioritized.

The value of community engagement cannot be overstated in our county that has an aging population.  Mike will work collaboratively with community organizations, schools, and healthcare providers to build partnerships and maintain public safety. Priorities include training, emergency preparedness, and addressing the drugs and mental health issues in the county. 

Mike will demonstrate his commitment to fiscal responsibility by kicking off his Sheriff position with a reduced salary and foregoing the benefits and pension saving the county at least $27,000 annually and removing any future pension obligation.  With an annual budget of $2.3 million, Mike will implement a fiscally sound and transparent budget and eliminate the recurring budget disputes evident between the department and the county, beginning with a complete audit of past budget details.

Mike is a strong advocate for the preservation of individual rights emphasizing the right to keep and bear arms as a fundamental aspect of protecting personal liberty. As a veteran, Mike recognizes this God-given right to self-defense. Mike will work with our State representative and senator to oppose new restrictions on guns and support further second amendment protections. 

Mike’s core beliefs are centered around establishing strong community relationships through transparency, accessibility, and proactive programs to foster trust and collaboration between law enforcement, residents, and community organizations. Each of Mike’s priorities contains an element of community partnerships and Mike believes in working together to address local concerns while respecting individual liberties.
